Civil Liberties Team Update

The Civil Liberties Team Monthly meeting will be at the Downtown Library at 1:30 p.m.  on Monday, February 19. At this meeting, the team will be discussing the Bail Bond System

The Team  will continue to study the money bail bond issue and the constitutional questions raised by this system.  In December, two team members presented to the group with a report on “Moving Beyond Money:  A Primer on Bail Reform” from the Harvard Law School’s Criminal Justice Policy Program and another report on Colorado’s pretrial bail bond law, House Bill 13-1236.  The Team also met with Sam Lounsberry of the Loveland “Reporter-Herald” who recently wrote an article analyzing the types of bonds set in county and district courts.

The Civil Liberties Team will study of the bail system and how various states are making changes regarding pretrial detention of defendants will lead to a public meeting on the subject later this year.   For more information, please contact Linda Grey-Wilson (CivilLiberty@lwv-larimercounty.org).
