The League of Women Voters of Larimer County strives to serve residents of the entire county. While much of the activity happens “up north” in Fort Collins, members who live in Loveland are actively engaged in issues that specifically impact Loveland.
Most recently, Lori Hvizda-Ward, Thompson School District Board President, gave an excellent talk at the April meeting on how citizenship and patriotism are taught in our schools. Meeting attendees were pleasantly surprised to learn that age appropriate instruction starts in kindergarten and progresses through high school. The conversation was informative as well as entertaining. The group agreed that they may have her back again because, as with many of our speakers, they are so interesting we could talk longer than time allows.
The May meeting will feature Marilyn Hilgenberg, Loveland Open Lands Manager, who will give a presentation on Viestenz-Smith Mountain Park and other open space projects in Loveland. The park was destroyed in the 2013 Big Thompson flood and work is being done to restore it.
Barb Hansen has stepped down as organizer of the Loveland Leaguers, but Nancy Kain and Vonne Zdenek will provide leadership. All League members are welcome at these meetings, as well as the community at large. So please join us when we have a topic that interests you. Meetings are held the 3rd Monday of the month from 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM. in the auxiliary building north of Namaqua UUC, 745 East 5th Street, Loveland.
