The Informed Citizens Book Club is taking the month of July off . Instead we are suggesting that the members of the League of Women Voters of Larimer County join in an “All League Read” of The Woman’s Hour by Elaine Weiss
Buy or check out the book, read it, and then when we gather with League friends over coffee, wine, a hike, a meal – we share our thoughts and reactions to the book and the history it chronicles. With this nonconventional book club format, we hope to foster many mini book discussions – it just takes two. An invitation will be extended to other Colorado Leagues to join us.
Imagine, leaguers around the state will be talking about Carrie Chapman Catt and the ratification of the 19th Amendment during the month of July.
The Women’s Hour chronicles the vote in Congress when women won the right to vote, and essential to that vote was the work of suffragette, Carrie Chapman Catt, the founder of the League of Women Voters.
“Elaine Weiss takes readers back to the nail-biting and drama-filled weeks leading-up to the ratification of the 19th Amendment.” The Week
So, you now have advance warning – finish what you are reading, clear off your bedside table, make space by you reading chair and, plan to join in to this first ever All League Read!
If you find yourself unable to read the book, or if you’re looking for inspiration to fire you up to read it, we invite you to view author Elaine Weiss discuss the book here.
