Campaign Finance and Your Ballot with Sam Houghteling of the Straayer Center for Public Service Leadership, CSU.
Join members at the first summer Drinks and Dialogue – a short presentation by a community member, followed by informal discussion as long as people want to talk.
June 26 ~ 5:30 – 7:00 pm
Game Day Grill 1027 W. Horsetooth Rd #111 (formerly Pappy’s Pub)
How much do you really know about the campaign finance rules? Would you know where to locate who has funded local issue and candidate campaigns?
We’ll move beyond Citizens United to examine how money in politics finds its way onto our local ballots.
On Thursday, June 28th our League’s Election Reform Team: Making Democracy Work will screen a live webinar direct from the LWVUS Convention in Chicago!
- Nick Stephanopoulos and Ruth Greenwood are experts in the redistricting field and will speak on redistricting and the efficiency gap theory. We will hear their perspective as attorneys for the appellees in the case of Gill v. Whitford currently before the Supreme Court.
- The LWVUS has filed an amicus brief on Gill v. Whitford arguing that partisan gerrymandering violates the First Amendment and the Equal Protection Clause of the U.S. Constitution and points out that traditional redistricting principles – such as compactness, contiguity, and respect for political subdivisions – have no constitutional foundation.
Join us at 5:30 pm for mingling and be ready for the 6:00 pm webinar.
Plymouth Congregational Church, 916 W. Prospect Rd. Fort Collins
